How to Insert Dropbox Photos Into a WordPress Post

Dropbox and WordPress are the two big names in their respective fields. Dropbox is one of the most famous cloud storage services while WordPress is the most-adopted content management system. If you are a blogger and use both of them, chances are you ever tried to insert some of your photos in Dropbox into a certain post in WordPress.

The problem is, inserting a Droprox photo to a WordPress is not that easy. Even if you have pasted a public URL of the photo, something like https://www.dropbox.com/s/bj79qt5dqfp92gm/DSC_0520.JPG.

Naturally, WordPress allows you to insert photos into a post from external source by pasting the full URL of the photo you want to insert but, it doesn’t work for photos from Dropbox. Pasting the full URL of a Dropbox photo into a WordPress post won’t give you the image you want. Instead, the link will keep appear as a link, not image.

So, what is the solution?

There is an easy way of how to insert a Dropbox photo into a WordPress post. No, you don’t need to install a plugin or any tool. Just replace the last 4 characters of the URL of a photo you want to add — which normally dl=0 with another new one, raw=1. So, your URL will look like this.

Before: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bj79qt5dqfp92gm/DSC_0520.JPG?dl=0

After: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bj79qt5dqfp92gm/DSC_0520.JPG?raw=1

Once you replaced the last 4 characters of the URL, just press the Add Media button in WordPress editor and choose Insert from URL like you are used to be doing every time you want to insert a photo from external source. If you haven’t done this before, follow the steps below.

  • On your Dropbox account, choose a photo you want to insert to WordPress post and click Share.

  • Click the Create a linklink and copy the link. You will get a link with dl=0as the last characters of the link. Replace the characters with raw=1

  • Login to your WordPress dashboard and create a new post and press the Add Media button on WordPress editor.

  • Select the Insert from URLoption and paste the new URL of the photo you want to insert.
