How to Install a New Photoshop Brush in Windows 10

Photoshop has about 30 default brushes. Creative persons are not enough with them. If you need a unique brush for your project, you can install a new brush on your Photoshop. There are a bunch of resources to download Photoshop brushes if you have no time to create a new one yourself. Photoshop itself uses the .ABR file extension for brushes.

An ABR file can contain a set of Photoshop brushes instead of online a single brush. To install new Photoshop brushes from an ARB file in Windows 10, you can simply paste the ARB file to the “Brushes” folder under your Photoshop installation. Here is the path.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Version\Presets\Brushes

After pasting the ABR file, restart your Photoshop (close and relaunch). You should see a set of new Photoshop brushes when selecting a brush shape.

Just for your information. A Photoshop brush can also be used in GIMP. Although GIMP uses the .VBR file for its brushes, it also recognizes other formats, including ABR. To install a Photoshop brush in GIMP in Windows 10, you can simply paste the ABR file to the “brushes” folder your GIMP installation with the following path.

C:\Program Files\GIMP version\share\gimp\GIMP version\brushes\
