How to Upload Photo to Instagram from PC via Microsoft Edge

Instagram doesn’t allow you to upload a new photo from desktop. Even the official Instagram app for Windows 10 also doesn’t allow you to do so. But, with a little trick, you can upload a new photo to your Instagram account from desktop via web browser. One of which is via Microsoft Edge.

Instagram itself is a social media platform that is designed exclusively for mobile devices. Before available for Android, Instagram was initially available only for iPhone.

To upload a photo to Instagram from Microsoft Edge, you need to use an emulator. Don’t worry. You don’t need to install one since Microsoft Edge already provides one.

How to upload a new photo to Instagram from desktop via Microsoft Edge

First and foremost, login to Instagram with your account. Once you have logged in, right-click anywhere within your Instagram feed and select Inspect element. This option will open the Developer Tools window.

On the Developer Tools window, click the tiny arrow button and select Emulation.

On the Device section, select a device from the drop-down menu.

Once you have selected a device, Microsoft Edge will reload the Instagram page and bring a new Instagram interface according to the device you chose. You should see a plus icon (+) button within the new Instagram interface. Click that button to start uploading a new photo.

Switch to the Filter tab to apply a filter to the photo you want to upload. You can also set the photo orientation to landscape just like you can do on Instagram for Android or iPhone. Click the Next button to add a caption.

Write a caption on the available column. Once you are done with the caption, click the Share button to upload the photo to your Instagram account.

The verdict

Uploading photo to Instagram from desktop will lessen your dependency on Instagram app on smartphone. This option is particularly helpful if you often edit your stuffs using desktop app (like Photoshop) before uploading them to Instagram.

  1. I don’t get that same drop down window. All mine has in it are the following: Select all, Print, Read aloud. Do you have any others suggestions. I have been able to do it on Chrome but I need two accounts from my computer. Thanks.

    • Hi,
I had this issue too, go to the 3 dots at the top right corner of the browser.

Click on more tools and then developer tools and it’s in there 🙂

    • It works fine for me. No problem at all, Sad thing is, You can’t seem to post multiple photos at once when you’re in Developer Mode.

  2. This does not apply to latest Microsoft Edge layout.
