How to Use SnapBride App to Download Photos from a Nikon Camera

SnapBridge is an official app from Nikon that you can use to wirelessly download photos from your Nikon digital cameras to your smartphone. This app is available for both Android and iOS. SnapBridge is pretty useful if you often happen to edit your photos via your smartphone before uploading them to social media. SnapBridge utilizes Bluetooth to connect your smartphone and Nikon camera. So, before installing this app on your smartphone make sure that your device (smartphone) features Bluetooth.

SnapBrigde itself only supports JPEG format. It won’t display the RAW files existing on your camera. So, you need to make sure to set the image quality option to JPEG or RAW+JPEG instead of RAW only.

Not all Nikon digital camera models support SnapBridge. At the time of writing, following are the Nikon digital camera models that support SnapBridge.

  • DSLR: D850, D500, D7500, D5600, D3500, D3400
  • Mirrorless: Z7, Z6
  • Coolpix: P1000, A1000, A900, A300, B700, B600, B500, W300, W150, W100

Please note that if you have a KeyMission 360/170 device, you need to download the SnapBridge 360/170 instead of the regular SnapBridge.

How to use SnapBridge to download photos from a Nikon digital camera

Before getting started, make sure you have installed the SnapBridge app on your smartphone (iOS, Android).

First off enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and open the SnapBridge app. Once open, tap the Connect to camera button.

Tap one of the camera groups according to the camera model you have. For instance, if you have a D3400 camera then you should tap the top-most group.

On your camera, select Connect to smart device in the camera setup menu.

Follow the on-screen instruction until the camera name is displayed on your smartphone. Once you see the camera name on your smartphone screen, tap on it.

Wait a moment until the connection is complete (you will get a passkey). Once connected, you can tap the Download pictures button to start downloading your photos from camera to smartphone.

Select the photos you want to download (tap and hold). Once done selecting, simply tap the Download button at the bottom and SnapBridge will download the selected photos to your smartphone.

Once the download is complete, you can find your photos on the SnapBridge album on your smartphone gallery.

By default, SnapBridge stores your photos to the internal storage of your smartphone. If you have a smartphone with low storage capacity, you can change the download destination from the app option (tap the three-line icon on the top-left corner).

When downloading the photos, SnapBridge gives you options whether you want to download the photos in the original size or 2 megapixels instead (1620×1080). If you chose the 2 megapixels option, you can upload your photos to NIKON IMAGE SPACE if you want. To do so, simply click the cloud icon at the right-most of the app screen.
