How to Add Your Android Phone to Windows 10 and Why

Windows 10 has a default app called Your Phone. This app allows you to add/connect your Android device with Windows 10. Once connected, you will be able to send text messages, view notifications of your Android phone, and see the last 25 taken images on your Android phone from your PC. You can actually connect your iPhone as well, but the tight restrictions of Apple prevent the same integration level as Android.

The Your Phone app itself started available since Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This app replaced the old Phone Companion previously available on Windows 10 (Read: how to update your Windows 10 to the latest version).

How to connect your Android phone with Windows 10 using Your App

Connecting your Android phone with Windows 10 using Your Phone is extremely easy. First off, launch the Your Phone app from the Start menu.

On the main window of Your App app, you will be asked whether you want to connect an Android phone or iPhone. Since you want to connect your Android phone so select Android. If this is the first time you use Your Phone, you will see the following interface. Click the Get started button to continue.

You will be asked to log in with your Microsoft account as well as entering your phone number. Simply log in and enter your phone number and click the Send button. Microsoft will text you the link of the companion app that needs to be installed on your Android phone.

Once you got the text message, click the link to install the app (Your Phone Companion) on your Android phone. Once installed, launch the Your Phone Companion app on your Android phone. You need to log in with your Microsoft account to connect your Android phone with Windows 10 PC.

On the next step, simply tap the My PC is ready link since you have logged in with your Microsoft account on your PC.

On the last step, you need to give Your Phone Companion to connect your Android phone with your PC. Simply tap the Allow button to do so.

How to use Your Phone app once your Android phone is connected

You will be able to see the text messages conversation on your Android phone, notifications, and the last 25 taken images once your phone is connected with Windows 10.

To see the last 25 taken images on your Android phone, you can click the Photos menu on the left panel. Images you see here are images stored on your Android phone. You can copy them to your PC by dragging them to File Explorer or right-click and select Save As.

To see text messages on your Android phone, click the Messages menu on the left panel and you will be presented the text messages on your phone chronologically (from the newest ones to the oldest ones). You can simply click the New message button to write a new text message.

To see your Android phone notifications, you can click the Notifications menu on the left panel. Your notifications are synced. In other words, you will only see your Android phone notifications here if you haven’t open them on your phone. If you are away from your Android phone and there are new notifications come in, you will see them on the bottom right corner of your Windows 10 screen. Not all notifications are displayed, though. Your Phone will only show notifications of WhatsApp, Twitter, and Play Store.

If you want to stop connecting your Android phone with Windows 10 PC, you can simply log out from the Your Phone Companion app on your Android phone. To do so, tap the gear icon on the top-right corner and select Accounts. Tap the Sign out button to logout.

By the time this article is written, you can only add one Android phone/iPhone to your Windows 10 with Your Phone app. There is even no option to remove the device you have added to replace it with another one.
