How to Clean Windows System via Command Prompt

There a bunch of tools to assist you in cleaning up the junk files on your Windows PC. Did you know that you can do system cleaning on your Windows PC without using any tool?. Windows has a built-in tool called Disk Cleanup which you can run via Command Prompt. This tool is available on all Windows versions.

The way Disk Cleanup works is not much different to system cleaners like CCleaner and the similar tools. It will delete the unnecessary files like setup log files, temporary internet files, temporary Windows files and files on the Recycle Bin.

Although you can run Disk Cleanup via Command Prompt, it is not a fully command line-based tool. There is still a graphical interface you will interact with.

To use use this tool, launch Command Prompt on your computer and type cleanmgr. A tiny popup will appear, asking you to select the drive you want to clean up. Select one and click the OK button.

Tick the file types you want to delete and select the OK button to start deleting them.

The verdict

You don’t have to always rely on a system cleaner tool to delete junk files on your computer, unless you need other features like scheduled system cleaning and so on. Windows already has a built-in tool to clean up your system. If you use Windows 10, you can also do system cleaning via the Settings menu.
