How to Add a YouTube Playlist to WordPress

Do you have a WordPress-based website and want to add a YouTube playlist? If yes, this article will show you how.

Today, adding a YouTube playlist to WordPress is a bit harder than before. You need to create an API key and enable the required API to connect your Google account with your website. If you have no coding skills, the easiest way to add a YouTube playlist to your WordPress site is by using a plugin. One of the plugins you can use is JetBlog. JetBlog is a premium Elementor add-on that costs $15 per year. You can get it with a one-time purchase option on the Jupiter X theme bundle and Monstroid2 theme bundle. While for Elementor, you can use the free version.

Getting and installing the YouTube API key

Go to Google API Console and login with your Google account (the same account as the one you use for YouTube). If you don’t have a project yet, create a new project by clicking the dropdown menu on the top bar and click NEW PROJECT.

Give your project a name and click the CREATE button.

Select the new project you have just created via the dropdown menu on the top bar and click Library on the left panel.

Scroll down to the YouTube section and select YouTube Data API v3. Click the ENABLE button to enable this API for your project.

Return to the main dashboard of Google API Console (you can click the Google API Console logo on the top bar to return to the main dashboard). Click Credentials on the left panel and click the CREATE CREDENTIAL link on the top side and select API key.

Copy the generated API key.

Login to your WordPress dashboard (make sure you have installed both Elementor and JetBlog). Go to JetPlugins -> JetBlog Settings. Paste the API key you have copied to the YouTube API Key field.

Start adding the playlist

Before adding a playlist, make sure the playlist you want to add is set to Public.

Create a new page (Pages -> Add New) or a new post (Posts -> Add New) and edit it with Elementor.

On the canvas area, add a new section by clicking the red plus button and drag the Video Playlist widget.

On the Source option on the Items block, set to YouTube Channel or Playlist and paste the URL of a YouTube playlist you want to add. You can also set the number of videos on the playlist.

Open the Settings block to set some basic settings such as the playlist height, thumbnail orientation, heading text, thumbnail list width, and so on.

To style your playlist, you can go to the Style tab. On the General Styles block, you can set the canvas background, thumbnail background, heading typography, heading background, and so on. On the Thumbnail Styles block, you can set the gap between thumbnails, and typography of the title. You can play around on the Style tab until you get satisfied with the look of your playlist.

Once you are done, you can click the PUBLISH button on the bottom side on the left panel to publish your page.

If you want to add the playlist you have just created to Gutenberg, you can use the Elementor Blocks for Gutenberg plugin. This plugin will convert an Elementor template into a Gutenberg block. Read here to learn more.
