Easy Steps to Embed PDF in WordPress

In WordPress you can easily embed social media posts from Twitter, Facebook to Instagram. It is also possible to embed video from YouTube. What if you want to embed PDF and other formats of document?

At the time of writing, WordPress hasn’t supported any document format to be embedded on a post. But, there is always a way to get what you want in WordPress, thanks to the plugins.

Embedding PDF in a WordPress post is a nice way to display your documents and let your readers to instantly read them without having to download them first. It’s also great if you want to develop a Scribd-like website with WordPress as the core.

Since you can’t embed PDF in WordPress, you need to install an additional plugin to make everything work as you want. This article will show how to embed PDF in WordPress using a plugin called Embed Any Document. Apart from PDF you can also embed other document formats including DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, TXT and lots more. You can also choose whether want to upload documents from your local storage, URL or even Dropbox and Google Drive (you need to upgrade to do this).

Install Embed Any Document in WodPress

First, you need to install the Embed Any Document plugin. This plugin will create a new Add Document button right next to Add Media button within WordPress editor. Its function is similar to Add Media button but this is for documents not images like you usually do.

  • Login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins -> Add New

  • Type “Embed Any Document” in the search box and click the Install Now button. Don’t forget to activate the plugin immediately once it’s installed.

Once the plugin is successfully installed you will have a new option in the Settings menu inside WordPress dashboard called “Embed Any Document”. You can set the width and height of the documents. Every time you want to make some settings, just go for it.

Embed PDF

Now you can start embedding your PDF or other document formats in a the blog post you are writing.

  • Just click the Add Document button.

  • Select the source of the PDF document you want to embed. If you want to embed PDF from local storage of your computer just select Upload Document option. Otherwise, if you want to embed PDF from certain URL just select Add from URL option. Click the Insert button to embed the document.

You can also embed documents from Google Drive, Dropbox and Box. But, you need to upgrade to the pro version of Embed Any Document if you want to do it. Below is the example of the embedded PDF.
