6 Free Alternatives to Divi Builder

If you use the Divi theme to create your WordPress-based website, you have a visual builder — called Divi Builder — that you can use to create beautiful pages on the website you are working on. Be it the homepage, the about page, the contact page, and so on. Thanks to its theme builder feature, you can even create a custom 404 page, a custom search results page, a custom header, a custom footer, and other parts of your website. Divi Builder itself is available in two versions: a standalone plugin (which you can use on any WordPress theme) and the built-in feature of the Divi theme and Extra theme.

Divi Builder is a paid page builder developed by Elegant Themes. To use it, you need to spend $89 year. The license offered by Elegant Themes allows you to download five WordPress products:

  • Divi Builder itself (in case you want to use it on a theme outside Divi and Extra)
  • Divi theme
  • Extra theme
  • Bloom (an email opt-in feature)
  • Monarch (a social media sharing plugin)

If you are a casual WordPress user who just needs a page builder to adorn your about page or contact page, you might prefer to use a free page builder instead. While Divi Builder is a great page builder, here are 6 of the best alternatives that you can use for free.

1. Elementor

Elementor is the best solution if you are looking for a free alternative to Divi Builder. We have some reasons to say it. First, it has a very intuitive visual editor that is extremely easy to learn and use. Second, it has a strong ecosystem. Elementor is supported by many WordPress developers. Today, there are many theme developers that use Elementor as their default page builder for the themes they develop. In addition, there are also plugin developers that develop Elementor add-ons to extend the functionality of Elementor. The Elementor plugin itself is released as a freemium plugin, meaning that you can use it for free. The free version of Elementor is more than enough to create a beautiful page on your WordPress site. You will be able to add elements like buttons, images, dividers, text, and so on to your page.

You can unlock features like custom CSS, the ability to add dynamic content (including custom fields), theme builder (to create a custom header, custom footer, custom single page, and so on) by upgrading to the pro version of Elementor.

Another advantage of using Elementor is that you can install free add-ons to add unique elements (called widgets) that are not offered by Elementor.

2. Brizy

Brizy is another page builder plugin that has a very intuitive editor. The editor of Brizy is a combination of Gutenberg (the block editor of WordPress) and Elementor. Brizy uses the term “block” instead of “section” to mention the largest container to host the design elements. Its editor features a live editing experience to allow you to edit a certain content type (i.e. text) right from the canvas area instead of a panel. One thing we love about the Brizy editor is that it offers a large space for the canvas area. Also, it’s more lightweight compared to Elementor and Divi Builder. Brizy is especially a great option if you are looking for a free page builder that allows you to create a contact form as the free version of Brizy offers a Form element which you can use to do so. It’s just, you can’t connect your form with a third-party service.

In addition to a page builder, Brizy also offers other handy features like maintenance mode and lead manager. Brizy itself works on both posts and pages. It works seamlessly on any WordPress theme. The pro features offered by Brizy are pretty similar to Elementor. Some of which are:

  • Theme builder
  • WooCommerce builder
  • Popup builder
  • More advanced form builder
  • Custom CSS

3. Zion Builder

The case of Zion Builder is pretty similar to Divi Builder. Previously, it’s only available on the KALLYAS theme but the developer eventually decided to release Zion Builder as a standalone plugin. But unlike Divi Builder, Zion Builder is released as a freemium plugin meaning that you can use it for free in case you don’t need the pro version. You can check the changelog of Zion Builder on this page. The free version of Zion Builder offers 17 elements, including the Pricing Box element (to create a pricing table) and the Gallery element (to create an image gallery). The interface of Zion Builder is pretty similar to Brizy where it has a large space to edit the page. It also features a live editing experience to edit the content right from the canvas area.

At the time of writing (January 19, 2021), the features offered by the pro version of Brizy are still limited. You will only get features like the ability to add dynamic content (including custom fields), the ability to use custom fonts and icons, transform, and CSS filters. More advanced features like theme builder, popup builder, and WooCommerce builder are being developed.

4. Page Builder Sandwich

Page Builder Sandwich is a simple, generic page builder plugin. Meaning that you can use it for free in case you just need to adorn the about page or contact page of your website. Just like other page builders above, Page Builder Sandwich also comes with a visual editor where everything is drag and drop. It also features a live editing feature where you can edit the content from the canvas area.

5. Visual Composer

Visual Composer is a feature-rich page builder plugin. You need to use the pro version to get the most out of the page builder, but if you don’t need the advanced features like the ability to add custom fields, theme builder, popup builder, and so on then you can use the free version of Visual Composer to create a beautiful page on your WordPress site. Some WordPress themes on ThemeForest use Visual Composer as their default page builder plugin. Brooklyn is one of those themes.

6. Beaver Builder

Another page builder plugin that you can use for free as an alternative to Divi Builder is Beaver Builder. The plugin itself is basically released as a freemium plugin just like other plugins above. Although the features offered by the free are limited enough, they can be used to create a more interesting page rather than just a mere all-text page. With the free version of Beaver Builder you can add elements like image, video, audio, and so on. Beaver Builder itself works on both posts and pages and can be used on any WordPress theme.
